Never Stop Growing In God

2 Peter 1: 1-15

This is Peter’s last message before his death (v15).

What is the message? – (v3) God is calling us by His own glory and goodness to share in His Divine Nature, to become increasingly like Him.

2 Peter 1: 5 “For this very reason …” – your small faith in coming to God (not a great leap of faith) has put Him in the driving seat.  “..add to your faith goodness..”.  What is goodness?  How you behave in the world.  Act graciously to other people.  “…and to goodness, knowledge; ”  What are you learning about at the moment?  Its the seed that landed on good soil that grew (Mark 4: 1-20).  What soil are you planted in at the moment?  Spend time reading books that increase your knowledge of God.

2 Peter 1: 6 “and to knowledge, self-control;… “.  Start praying, taking God seriously, developing a relationship with your heavenly Father.  “..and to self-control, perseverance;.. ”  Spur one another on. …and to perseverance, godliness; ”  Godliness 1. Awe and wonder of God

   2. Understanding the Love of God

3. Desire and trust for God

2 Peter 1: 7 “ and to godliness, brotherly kindness;… ” Have brotherly kindness to one another – a fruit that is growing. (v3) “His divine power has given us everything we need ”  2 Peter 1: 7 “…and to brotherly kindness, love. ”  1 Corinthians 13.

Our salvation is a gift of God, but when we put Jesus into the driving seat, God can work in our lives.

(v8) This will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive.  Let’s get passionate in our lives and grow in God.

2 Peter 1: 9  If you are lukewarm, you have forgotten that you have been purged from your old sins.

2 Peter 1: 10 “Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never fall

2 Peter 1: 11 “and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
