Living for God
1 Peter 4: 1-11
1 Peter 4: 1-2 “Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. “
v3 You sinned enough in the past, no longer live like that, but live for the will of God.
v4 People will reject you for living like that. Don’t be discouraged by their slander.
v5 Everyone will have to give an account to God. No-one will escape judgement. God’s desire is for all people to know Him, and those that know Him will be saved.
Two extremes of thinking:
1.God is soft and loving, so we do not need to worry what we do
2. God is the judge, so we live a life feeling condemned.
1 Peter 4: 7 “The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. ” We need to have that wider perspective to be watchful and to be in hope. One thing is certain – Jesus will return.
Two dangerous opposite extremes:
1.Why worry about this world, if God is going to destroy it
2.We focus too much on this life so that we loose God’s perspective.
2 Peter 3: 9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. “
