Going to the Nations
Some of the last words Jesus said to his disciples are known as The Great Commission:
Mark 16: 15-16 “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. “
Luke 24: 46-47 “He told them, ‘This is what is written: the Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. “
Matthew 28: 18-20 “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’ “
In the passage in Matthew, above, Jesus gave His disciples (that’s us), 5 commandments:
1.Go somewhere with a purpose
2.Make disciples – go and share the gospel
3.Make disciples of all nations – there are about 16,000 different ethnic groups in the world
4.Baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
5.Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.
that they would love, knowing that they are loved.
An impossible task, but there is hope:
Acts 1: 8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you… “
We are not on our own.
Matthew 28: 20 “… And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. “
It is the Great Co – Mission. Jesus works beside us.
Acts 1: 8 “…and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’ “
Your mission may be in your local area, nearby countries or the ends of the earth.
1.Who is God calling you to disciple?
2.Where is He calling you?
